Sam Fooks, Jr., age 89, of Benton, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Baptist Health Paducah.

Sam was born in Marshall County on June 3, 1930 to the late Sam and Nellie Harper Fooks.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and was a retired Carpenter and General Contractor.  He was a deacon at Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church, he was twice named a Kentucky Colonel, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Sam will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, his sharp wit, and his tireless work ethic.

Sam is survived by his two sons, Charles Fooks of Benton and Sam Warren Fooks of Benton; two daughters, Carol Fooks Hinton of Gainesville, Florida and Mary Fooks of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; one sister, Shirley Crippen of Benton; six grandchildren, Jennifer Magary of Gainesville, Florida, Rob Magary of Gainesville, Florida, Brett Fooks of Sacramento, California, William Fooks of Evansville, Indiana, Elizabeth Fooks of Cleveland, Ohio, Daniel Fooks of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and three great-grandchildren, Cameron Gera, Paige Magary, and Naomi Magary, all of Gainesville, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Janis Williams Fooks; one son, John Calvin Fooks; his parents; seven sisters, Mary Fooks, Ruby Reed, Leoda Riley, Bertha Fooks, Magdalene Fooks, Marie Story, and one infant sister; and three brothers, Willie Fooks, Courtney Fooks, and Louis Fooks.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, August 5, 2019 at Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Danny Ferrell officiating.  Burial will follow at Fooks Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Filbeck-Cann Funeral Home of Milner & Orr and also from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am service time on Monday, August 5, 2019 at Mt. Moriah Primitive Baptist Church.
